Wow! I cannot believe the date. I remember when I was a teenager and thinking ahead in my life and how OLD I would be when 2000 rolled around. Now I am REALLY old. Not really I guess. My life has taken on so many twists and turns in my 51 years on this earth and I know it will face more in the future. I wonder sometimes what it will hold and then I think of the old song that says "I don't know about tomorrow, I just live from day to day. I don't borrow from it's sunshine, or it's skies may turn to gray."
Life does not always turn out exactly as we had planned, but it always turns out, and I wouldn't change a thing.
With the present economic downturns I find myself in the same situation as everyone else, just going from day to day. But what a hoot that we can do what we do, and live our lives doing something that we love, rather than slaving away in some cubicle somewhere. Some people love cubicles...not me. I am beginning to asses the future though and to think ahead in my business decisions. If we plan ahead, we should do okay. The failure to plan is a plan to fail. Happy 2009 and lets MAKE it a great one!

God's reward for not killing your own children....definition of Grand Children! Heehee. Love these little ones. They are the cutest little sweethearts on the planet! Well...I might be a bit prejudiced. We babysat them all weekend! What a chore and a joy at the same time. I am tired...I need a vacation from my weekend, but I sure had fun. These 3 are each 13 months apart and full of energy. The oldest (Patrick) slept with Lyle (my incredibly handsome husband!) and I every night and the youngest (Grace) stole "Papou's" heart. The middle guy (Rusty) is my birthday present as he was born on my birthday, April 6th so therefore my favorite...well not really. They are all SOOOO incredibly fun to be around and I am lucky enough to see them everyday!

Beauty and the Beast Auditions

This week at VVC where I teach they are auditioning for Beauty and the Beast and ALL of the students are hitting me up for head shots. When I do headshots I give them most of the photos in Color, Black and White, and Sepia. It gives them a variety of looks, because each has its own personality. This is Kathryn Gibson. She is a VERY talented actress. I would not be surprised at all to find her on national stages in the next few years if she continues to follow her dreams. A few of her shots.

I feel like my head is reeling from the info and I am looking at images with a whole new perspective. I have a new insight on my constantly developing style and some great new friends!

It's nice to sometimes stay close to home to shoot a wedding...no long drives, hotels or airplanes to catch! This one was right around the corner. Corri and Chris were married last weekend and what a wonderful family and group of friends they have! We had a blast! I think we are going to start calling Paula the "Barefoot Photographer" because she is so much more comfortable shooting with her shoes off that she kicks them off just before the wedding! What a hoot!

Corri's dress was a mermaid cut, beautiful gown and she wore those beautiful LONG gloves that I love! I have never been so moved by a Father/Daughter dance before. It was a great day. Congrats to Corri, Chris and their families. A few pics and I will add a couple more later...but off to breakfast for now!

Paula and I have spent the last two days at the Pictage Conference. Sometimes someone touches your life and you are certain you will never be the same. That happened to me at this conference in sessions with photographers Mike Colon and Dane Sanders. I think that I will look at my business, my relationships, and my life differently than I did before the conference thanks to these dedicated, talented and faithful men. Sometimes God sends someone into our lives to stabilize our goals and to energize our vision. These men are an inspiration to my work, my life, and my faith. Jennifer and Vaughn were married in Fallon Nevada and it was one of the most touching ceremonies we have ever shot. A family with a wonderful heart!

Camren and Brandon are going to be married in just a few weeks in Barstow! What a terrific couple and we are looking forward to the wedding which will be spectacular!

Wendy and Dana were married at Texas Station in Las Vegas, Nevada. A hollerin good time and are off on thier honeymoon!

Valarie and Shane will be married THIS WEEKEND at Jess Ranch in Apple Valley California. It will be a truly beautiful event in a lovely chapel and we are so excited for them!

Suzie and Phillip were married in Barstow. I had to pick a photo that showed off the flowergirls wonderful cast! Too cute!

The last couple of weeks have been SO busy, I'm not even sure where to start. We have had weddings and engagement shoots all over the western states and decided that the best way to handle the backup on the blog is to post some photos from all of the events in one blog entry. Well, here she is! Everyone has been asking to see pictures of Paula's new little one so here she is. Grace Elaine was born on May 24 at 12:11 PM, she weighed 8 Lbs 3 Oz and was 21 3/4 inches. It was an interesting day begining at 3:00 in the morning and ending with a crash C-Section at noon while Pam shot a wedding around the corner.

Happy 4th everyone. Well, last weekend was a big weekend with a rehearsal, 2 weddings and an engagement shoot. We are exhausted, but so excited about what we do and the remainder of the wedding season. I was thinking about how our lives unfold, literally. We never know what is around the next bend. We just have to trust that our God has our lives in His hands. I never would have thought that my hobbies would become my life's work, both photography and music. I never would have thought that God could make something so fulfilling out of my meager efforts. Thanks to all of you who are clients, friends and especially family. On this 4th of July, I am thankful for my country and my family, especially the love of my life, Lyle (he is amazing). God is SO good.

Death of an Online Friend

Life is too short...and shorter for some than others. A fellow photographer died this week trying to save a young church camp student from going over a waterfall just off of Lake Superior. Julie was so young and so talented. You can see her work on her website http://www.juliesteiskal.com/. Make sure you read the "about a girl" section which says so much about who she is....I can't bring myself to say was yet.

Just to give you an insight into her mind this is a story that she wrote on the spur of the moment for one of our photographers forums.

"once upon a time, there was a little boy. this little boy loved water. he loved to splash in the bathtub. he loved to float in the lake. he loved how water felt when it ran over his hands from the faucet. but most of all, he loved to spin circles in the rain.

one day, he woke up to the sound of a rainstorm pattering the roof of his little house. overcome with joy at the possibility of playing in the rain, he jumped out of bed to put his shoes on. shoe one went on. laces got tied. but the little boy stood there, one shoe on, one shoe off, wondering where his other shoe could have gone. he looked under his bed. he looked in his bed. he looked in his closet. he looked under the cushion of the chair. he looked in the kitchen, under the sink and in the refrigerator. he looked on the bookshelf, he looked in the basket of blankets. the little boy could not find his shoe.so he asked his mom. he asked his dad. he asked his little sister and he peered deep in the eyes of his trusty dog. the shoe could not be found.

the little boy, distressed, sat down on the bottom stair. his lip started to quiver. he took a deep breath. a tear wavered at the edge of his left eye. and then it fell. and another one fell. and another.soon, so many tears were falling that the little boy couldn't count them anymore.he was trying so hard, that he didn't hear the sound of his father's footsteps coming through the living room toward the stairs. and he barely noticed being picked up and carried toward the door. and so many tears were falling, that he almost didn't notice when the rain joined in. but when he realized it, he looked at his father.and softly, his father said, I'll wear the shoes this time. and the tears of sadness turned to tears of joy as they danced in the rain."

San Diego Wedding

Analise and Michael's wedding was on the 12th of January at San Diego 1st Assembly of God Church. The photos tell the story of a couple in love with family and friends that are supportive and have a strong tie to their faith. My favorite pic of the day is when Paula (one of our photographers) caught the father giving away the Bride and the look on the fathers face just says "please take care of my baby". We often get emotional ourselves at these events, but this one had a bit more emotion than many. Congrats to the happy couple and the families!

We shot a spectacular wedding on New Years Eve in Westlake Village, CA. The families were so amazing and so much fun. The hotel (The Four Seasons) did an amazing job of catering the event. Caryl from Especially for You Designs in Tarzana coordinated the event. It was a perfect day...always a few snags but nothing that took away from the beautiful event! MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Christmas is the best time of the year for so many reasons.

1. The reason for the season! A child born 2000 years ago!

2. Snow! (we didn't get any, but Mike who runs our Washington office did!)

3. Family! Especially grand children! They are the best! This has been a very happy and very sad Christmas on that front. Spending time with Patrick and Baby Rusty has been the best. Here are a few pics of the event.

But I really was missing Tommy in Illinois and Little Baby Lyle Michael Anthony Garmer that was born and died on December 18th of this year in Normal Illinois. Toni's last sono showed no heart beat and she went in that evening for an induction.

4. Memories! I miss my Mother and my Grandmothers who are no longer with us. But somehow you know they are there in spirit and the memories of past Christmas's are forever with us. Everytime we look at a photo, we are reminded of a memory! Aren't photos GREAT!?

What an incredible day and an amazing shoot! Pismo Beach made the perfect background for a wedding. Tanya was beyond beautiful and looked like a princess. Travis was her Prince Charming for sure! A little fog in the air and a bit nippy, Pismo is beautiful even with the weather. Since many have asked, I decided I should put a post here about the fires. They are not close to our Southern California office, though close enough to be battling some smoke issues. The fire that's closest to us is the one in Lake Arrowhead. The winds have really been the issue, but hopefully they will die down soon. Marina's wedding venue in Malibu is safe so far...whew! We were sweating that one out, but all is good!

Our office is busy this week finishing the editing on Manny and Jessica's wedding and thinking ahead on the design issues of Desiree and Michael's album.

You know, it never ceases to amaze me how everything seems to work itself out in the long run. Nothing seems to stop true love's path! I know, it's mushy!!!

Jessica and Manny were married this past Saturday at the Oak Glen Resort in Yukaipa, CA. It was an overcast day and COLD! But true love warms the heart if not the body and it turned out beautiful and LOTS of fun!

What a beautiful wedding this past weekend! It was in Yorba Linda California and the reception was at the Crowne Plaza in Fullerton. Desiree was the most CALM bride we have ever worked with. You would think she got married every day! They both have families that are so hospitable and welcoming! What a great day!

We are so excited at SceneOne Photography because we have some major changes coming!

We have our WASHINGTON office up and running. Make sure you email us to set up your weddings for next year in beautiful Washington State! Remember, June goes quick!!!

We are now Pictage members, which has opened up a whole new world including P3. It is a service that provides you, as the client, with the option of a pre-arranged payment plan. So now that PERFECT album that was only a dream can now be a reality!

We have newly revised packages that offer more products and services. These range in price from $2000 to $5000. We have also added an A La Carte option for those who don't quite fit into our structured packages.

Our Website is about to undergo a major change, thanks to a new web design by BluDomain. The new look will be clean and will have some great new features, including galleries and passworded client access. This will also fix the issues we have had with the outgoing mail server. If you emailed the office in the last few months with no response, please re-submit your email and we will get back to you.

Our growing pains are not limited to the company. As many of you know, Paula (one of our photographers and my youngest daughter) has 2 little ones less that 2 years old. Next year we will be able to say she has 3 little ones less than 3 years old. Yes, she and my oldest daughter are both pregnant and due sometime in May next year. WOW! This will be quite a year for SceneOne and our family.

We did some head shots for Megan today. She is a wonderful singer, learning to play the guitar and just having fun going to college. We had a lot of fun. I think the guy at the tractor shop thought we had lost it, but it made a great prop!

Hi, this is Paula :)

CONGRATULATIONS to Christina and Jeremy. We had so much fun shooting this one, the three of us all made an appearance and they had another photographer besides; it really felt like the paparazzi!

What a busy day with the trash the dress in the morning and the wedding immediately following. I got sun burnt and Pam tore her pants =:) At the end of the day we photographers have all kinds of interesting stories to tell, falling off stairs, cutting fingers, sun burns, black eyes, torn/stained clothes; we'll go through anything to get the shot. Afterall, bruises, cuts and burns heal, clothes can be washed and/or replaced, but the moments of that day can only be captured once (it also makes for great memories for us too).

So thank you, for allowing to make our own memories while we capture yours!

Trash the Dress

What a trooper! Katherine Jones made a great model for our Trash the Dress fun in the sun in Newport Beach! We had a blast! I fell and tore my pants and had to shoot the remainder on the sand dune and wrap a sheet around myself to get back to the car! What a hoot! Great shoot and lots of great fun!

Pictage Conference

Tomorrow is the Pictage Conference in Los Angeles. Our whole team is going and I am so excited to learn more. I am also anxious to get to know some of the photographers that I have communicated with on Open Source Photo and just to learn from the best! Friday we are doing a trash the dress shoot and a wedding. The editing time is going to be insane as we are still trying to complete the editing on last weekends shoots (engagement shoot and a wedding!). Fun to be busy and in demand!

This is Michael,

I was doing a shoot for a musician at a set of railroad tracks. After taking a bunch of pictures of him walking up and down the tracks, we began to load up to move to another location. I was waiting for him to put his guitar back in the case and put it in my trunk when it hit me!! "Wait" I said. "lay down on the tracks with your guitar.." He said "What". He thought I was nuts until he looked at the image in my camera.... His response? "That's tight" he said. Even if it sounds crazy, go for it!! You might get a very cool shot.

Steven and Brittany's Wedding Rehearsal

We shot Steven and Brittany's wedding rehearsal last night. The thing that I love most about shooting the rehearsal is the opportunity to get to know the family. What a wonderful family they have. Grandma is 90 years young and travels with grandpa (who is giving away the bride) in a motor home and have done this since the 1980's! The fun and the children multiply the joy in our line of work!

Steven and Brittany's Wedding

My mind is on Steven and Brittany's wedding this weekend. I know it will be a beautiful wedding because they are such a good looking and sweet couple. We shot the engagement photo's at Spring Valley Lake and then spent a few minutes winding down at Starbucks (my favorite hang out!). Great couple and CONGRATS Steven and Brittany! Life and Websites are FUNNY!

We had the funniest thing happen at SceneOne today! As most of you know, we have offices in California and in Washington. We have had a common goal of trying to get the website looking a bit cleaner, so today our financial advisor went online to try to make improvements. He would get something changed and when he refreshed the page, it had changed to something completely different! Every change he made showed up, but then disappeared! We definately had Internet Ghosts! It turns out that our Washington office was online trying to make changes at the same time! It was so funny! I hope none of you logged on during our overlapping web design craze! Keep watching the website for more subtle and not so subtle changes.

Yes! We still shoot portraits. We usually do on location environmental portraits, but this couple wanted studio shots. We used natural window light for these.

Brittany and Leo

Two Brittany's within a month of each other! I'm so glad the grooms had different names or I would have gone crazy! Brittany and Leo were married on July 28th and were immediately moved to Florida by the Navy. They had only two weeks to plan this wedding! It was a special treat that Brittany's Grandfather drove them to the reception in an unbelievable vintage car that he owns. That was quite a car!

We have been very busy lately with engagement shoots mostly. I love to shoot engagement photos because there is always that element of WOW to a relationship that is about to take on a new dimension. Two people in love can make an ordinary day extraordinary! Congrats to Brittany and Steven and we look foward to shooting your wedding on the 8th! It's our next big event.

A Great Weekend

This was an awesome weekend! Lyle and I drove up to Santa Barbara for a workshop with David Jay at Brooks institute. What an amazing weekend of learning, networking, and just plain fun! I was pretty uneasy going in, but all of the photographers were great and David Jay (now affectionately known as DJ) was terrific! My business, and more importantly my life, will never be the same again!
